6 Ways to Protect F&B Staff during COVID-19

As covid-19 continues spreading, life goes on. If you are someone who was planning a food and beverage (F&B) event during the rise of the pandemic, keep reading. Understand how to safely plan an F&B event or maintain an F&B business in the face of Covid-19.

  1. Create a Safe Environment

It is extremely essential to be considerate in thinking about staff members. Each individual might have their own worries or accommodations; staff members are of the utmost importance right now, since they are the people keeping operations running at a time of great risk. Seriously consider hiring an in house doctor and/or EMT that can be on call for staff. in addition, enforce new cleaning and sanitizing procedures to reassure staff that their health is taken seriously.

  1. Spread Awareness

Make sure to continually inform staff members about current pandemic status and how we should be treating our bodies. Hold meetings that outline important facts and safety measurements we should be taking. Finally, make sure your staff members have the correct facts about how the virus spreads and how to safely cook and prepare food.

  1. Outline Changes

Frequently check in with your staff members- encourage them to voice their questions and concerns about the status of the pandemic and the future of your company. Directly inform staff members of any and all changes, as they are likely overwhelmed.

  1. Modify Kitchen and Dining Practices

It is inevitable that all F&B events and practices are modified right now, as COVID-19 is not slowing down. Consider all aspects of your company that might need to be modified. For instance, it might be necessary to remove self-serve coffee machines and water jugs and to rearrange floor and seating plans.

  1. Communicate with entire “food chain”

It is important to be vocal with each piece of an F&B event when considering modifications. For instance, accordingly communicate with the BOH/FOH workers, let purveyors know your plans and do necessary research if you will need to hire more, and be conscious of all clients and guests that are relying on your event company.  Find information on event planning tools here

  1. Risk Management

In an effort to reduce health and food incidents, modify contracts that clearly outline expectations, service methods, training, and safety guarantees. Remember that your staff members likely have many questions about how to be safe with F&B events right now; reassure them by demonstrating your commitment to following health guidelines
